After 1.5 years, the design has not changed.
The hose completely came apart. It weighs a TON and has the DUMBEST, lousiest design ever.
1. cannot vacuum under furniture because it is so large,
2. the hardwood floor attachment pushes stuff around because the bristles block the suction
3. the hose and entire design are incredibly akward –to get suction the hose will bend and block air, thus you must often hold + unbend the hose while simultaneously vacuuming.
4. you will injure your back with the weight of this beast.
5. save your money, it breaks just like the cheaper brands, and the hose replacement is well over $100
6. So after 1.5 years of a broken back, you can have my piece of dirt for free and I’m going to buy a new cannister every year as they break all the time anyhow.

I’ve had the Dyson for about 2 months now.
Pros: Very good suction, does well with dog hair.
Cons: Awkward to move around and heavy, the ball does not help much. I bought this thinking that it would be easier to move around. I have some disc issues with my neck, and this vac irritates my neck.
The cord is short, goes across one room – I have some open spaces and it will not extend all the way across.
The extension is awkward to use, does not always come off/on easily, does not maneuver well. If stretched a long way, it does not go back onto the vac easily.
The plastic dirt bag/container is not easy to empty. Dog hair and other stuff tend to get stuck, and you might have to reach in to get all the dirt out. Can be messy to empty.
I have always used a canister vac, finding them easier to move around, and easier to reach corners & difficult spots quickly. My Hoover canister has a reuseable plastic bag/container that is very easy to dump out and never makes a mess. It is not as good on rugs, even with a beater brush.
Dyson will not give a refund, even with my medical issues.

My daughter bought a Dyson (not animal) And swears by it so my wife insisted and off we went to Costco to pick one up. We have carpets and we have two hundred pound dogs and a couple cats. So cleaning is a challenge and we had an Amway cyclone type for eighteen years (its still working but …) and I wished Amway still sold them (I’m not in Amway either) because I would run and buy one.
As for the Dyson, we had it maybe a month, using it nearly everyday it had a bad noise. And while it worked in spite of the noise it didn’t work half as good as our old Amway, whoever made it. We would do one sweep with the Dyson and you could see that there was hair everywhere on the carpet. We did tests as some reviewers wrote about because my wife was trying to justify spending 5 bills for this thing … well in the fourth week the noise, which we couldn’t find but knew it was in the beater bar – finally the belt came off and it was a chore to get it apart and try and fix it. I did, ONCE. Then we took it back to Costco who was generous in returning it without question.
And by the way. I went online and registered my unit with Dyson. And when the problems started with noise and the belt I went on their site and complained, more than once … drum roll please … nada, nothing, ever, to this day!
All hype as far as I’m concerned.

Save your money. I purchased this vacuum a month ago from Khols. Even though I didn’t purchase it from Amazon, I bought it based on the recommendations from this site, so I felt it necessary to report back. So I bought it, assembled it, and used it 4 whole times and it BROKE! I don’t know what happended. I called dyson and the rep had me take a couple things apart to look for anythig clogging the machine and there was nothing to be found. From what I can determine, something in the “ball” broke. When I turned it on, it made this sick sounding noise and then when I went to push it, it just locked up. I have an average sized home and I like to think I am very “gentle” with my tools, especially when they cost nearly $600.00. Anyways, the rep informed me that I can take it to a company in my area to have it seviced. I informed her that I wouldn’t be doing that and that I was going to return it where I purchased it. Something this expensive shouldn’t break after 4 uses! I didn’t give up on Dyson, yet. I bought the DC 14 (no ball). It’s not as easy to use ( a little heavier and a little harder to push), but so far it’s working well and from what I can tell, cleanig just as effectively.

Please do not waste your money on the name of this product! Just because some handsome foreigner comes on your television screen to tell you how dramatically engineered this machine is, that is no reason to be swept up (which the product does not do) and sucked into (the vacuum doesn’t do that either) his salesmanship.
I bought the DC 25 in January, 2009. By March, 2009, I was ready to have the blasted thing carted away from my home by the garbage men. The only thing that kept it from the dump was that my college-age son had no vacuum at all and appreciated a machine that would at least pick up his roommate’s sandwich scraps.
My housekeeper was the first to let me know what a cheap piece of machinery this was. She liked the way it crept around corners, but she did not like its LACK OF SUCTION. She said she had to go over spaces on the floor several more time than she had to with my Hoover that she used previously on her visits. I vacuumed the carpet twice, perhaps four times, between her twice monthly visits. With the Dyson, she noticed a remarkable lack of care.
One thing I noticed was the lack of ability to “fluff” my carpet back up. My Hoover used to make my carpets look all new and fresh. The Dyson keeps my carpet looking beat down and dirty. Especially since I have pets, this is an important thing for me. I do not want to feel like I need to replace my carpeting before it is time to do so. My carpeting has a 15 year limited warranty. It has barely been nine years, and since I have been using the Dyson for the last 9 months, it looks terribly worse. Also, I find the fact that it does not have “headlights” a discouraging point. I have to turn every lamp and light on in every room to see what I am doing while I vacuum with the Dyson. They are cheap in this matter.
I know this review is getting very long, but there is one more important factor I must share with you.
I have a home carpet cleaner. It is also a Hoover product. I try to clean each carpeted room on a regular basis. Since I have purchased the Dyson, I find that my carpet cleaner is filled with much more dog hair and soot than it used to have. This tells me the Dyson vacuum is not picking up the dirt it claims to.
Don’t waste your money. Go back to what you trust for half the price.
