Of course they can go in and out but they tend to go back in because there are females inside and they can’t get any you-know-what if they are all alone outside. If they get out they tend to go back in to get some nookie.
Thanks for posting. I have a terrible fly problem on my back porch and I’m gonna try your method with the yogurt container. Are the fly’s ever able to escape from it?
Yea I am giving my plants proper dormacy; but I don’t really give my newborn VTF (Watch my Video) dormacy mainly because I’m gonna let them grow a little bit more. Also, I was considering getting a Drosera (Thin Leaf) and possibly a Sarracenia . Yea, that Venus Flytrap Flower bloomed video is old, and I didn’t post it on Youtube for a WHILE. Thanks for the good comment anyways
you should give them more light it looks like, but other than that you are doing good with your vfts next you should get a pitcher plant. i also am fond of cps and am 12 years old. have you been giving them a proper dormancy (im just making sure you are because many people, even my science teacher have not given vfts dormancy and killed them, many people think they dont need one and probably know nothing about them) email my youtube as soon as possible)
To CarnivorousPlants57: This video is very cool! No offense, but I think your plant could use a little more light. Other than that, you take great care of your plants. You have better taste in videos than some other people on YouTube, such as Hopdiddy or another person making YouTube Poops.
To CarnivorousPlants57 or anyone who can help me here: Will this keep one of my venus fly traps healthy? One of my venus flytraps came in a package. I didn’t replant it, I used the package as a terrarium with the top open. They look fine, but will this be useful, or at least keep my VFTs alive (I know, way too many questions. I’m only a beginner with venus fly traps. While I’ve grown to love them, I still am getting very confused at times)
To be honest I dont think humidity is somthing to be worried about at all I live in california and I just stick my venus flaytraps out where there getting direct sun all day and there producing traps anf leaves like crazy.
Still good video I will give it 5
I live in az . With out a tank my plants got funny in the dry months. I think a tank is a must unless you live in a damp state like fl. You got to remember man here in az we get as dry as 5% humid . In a tank it keeps it at 40%. even thats low.
How cold? They can survive brutal winters down to -10C. Now I’m sure it doesn’t get that cold where you are, unless you live somewhere like Canada. All you need to know is, as long as it is warmer than -10c, you are fine. Please pay attention to our advice. I did it and it is growing well. Also, you don’t need to bother with distilled water if your water isn’t hard. Have a look on google for some charts for water hardness. Moderately soft is the highest I’d go.
They also love Sphagnum Moss . And Yeah I know you probably know more than me, i’m not much of an expert, still studying carnivorous plants, anyways I havn’t kept them outside often because the past days were real cold and crappy out, but it’s good to leave it outside when it’s raining and the sun’s out
It’d be better if you can have it outside, if you can. If you live in an aparment, then I understand, it’s just that windows cut off more sunlight than you think. And it doesn’t “need” 50%, they might appreciate it, but they don’t need it. they can be grown in the deserts of Arizona with no problem (which is where some of the people on my forum grows them). I know what I’m talking about
That’s what I keep it by a windowsill for plenty of sunlight, and yes, VFT’s love humid enviornments, and it doesnt need “high humidity” it just needs about 50% of humidity and about 10 hours of direct sunlight to keep it healthy. Trust me.
…There arer so many things wrong with this…
Take it out and put it outside in full sun. It doesn’t need high humidity. And, if you’re going to grow it inside, do it right…use T5 fluorescent light bulbs.

I think only the spectrum of light matters not the UV rays. Blue spectrum= green growth, Red spectrum = flowering.

You know you really don’t need it that damp I keep my plants happy with only 40% humid and once a week a jack it up with a nice one gal mist bath.
September 29th, 2010 at 10:04 pm
you know most windows block out almost all uv rays
