    First impression

    With out-of-box (factory) settings and connected to my macbook via HDMI cable watching an Avatar trailer the sound of “WOW” was echoing in our room.

    Earlier today, I had returned a new Optoma pico projector (PK301) to Bestbuy after days and nights of viewing in diverse lighting conditions, PK301 just didn’t work well due to too weak brightness (

    You will be surprised at the throw distance. From a very short distance, you can get a 120″ screen overflowing.. Good and bad in a way. I live in an apartment and did not want to ceiling mount this. So table mounting was my only option. For a 120″ 16:9 screen hanging from the very top end of the wall, you cannot seat the projector over 1 foot high from the floor. Very little zoom adjustment you can make so placement is very critical. Also there is no horizontal keystone, so kind of expect it to be placed in the dead center of the screen.

    Other than for these, it simply blows your mind in the picture clarity. Also, since the throw distance is going to be very short, the intensity of the light projected is also not lost. This keeps the image bright even with significant ambient light (on a screen not ann unpainted wall) !!!!

    Another nice thing is that this projector ships with its own carry bag.. Not a big deal but is something that can come in very handy.

    Awesome! I am happy with the projector, it has replaced my 60 incher that is now sitting in the corner. The picture quality is amazing, even with the lights on. Ive used it for hours while using my Xbox, and it stays the same temperature, and is quieter than the Xbox itself. From 12 feet away I have a 155in Screen. My place has become the place to watch everything at…BUY THIS IF YOU ARE THINKING ABOUT IT!

    I’d like to start this review by stating that this is my first projector. With that out the door this projector has and is performing better than i would have thought. The image looks great at 720p, it also does 1080p (XVGA),in 100″. Colors are bright, blacks could be darker and whites are, actually it is very bright. For the price is i suppose why i feel that it does great job. I’m sure that a more expensive model would look even better, but i am very glad this was more first projector. Does not disappoint.

    I ordered from amazon and it came in a wonderful package. I was thrilled to unwrap. Delighted to see the cool red backpack. The projector looked great from outside.

    Then connected to my laptop via HDMI interface (connected with the recommended resolution of 1280×800) and projected it against a 113 inch Elite Screen. Due to the short throw ratio, this projector seemed very sensitive to positioning. Initially, the projected image was tilted and I have to carefully adjust the screen and the projector to have straight image. Played a 720p mpeg4 video downloaded from youtube. It was not great as I could see some square pixels. Configured the VLC player to scale to 16:9, then it was as good as watching in my laptop screen. Also, played regular DVD movies from my laptop. They were great as well. Good black levels. Overall, I am very satisfied with my purchase. Also, I have ordered a 1080p media player to see if it is any better in up-converting 480p DVD images.

    What is good?

    * Runs very quite. Previously, I have owned Epson Moviemate projector. Compared to that, this is very quite.

    * Ventilation is very good and it runs cool.

    * Good quality bright video

    * Short throw – Both good and bad. Though it is a must for gaming.

    What is not so good?

    * Remote. There are big up, down, left and right arrows that are not assigned with any function. For moving up or down you have to use a smaller arrow keys below. Confusing.

    * I connected my audio system via the audio out of the projector. For some reason, this is not working. Workaround: Connected my audio system directly to the audio out of my laptop.

    * HDMI works flawlessly. Tried connecting a old DVD player with component video and it did not work. I am not worried about this.

    * Lens cap could be better.
